Statement from Collie Rescue (Rough & Smooth) Regarding Support for Buddy’s Rescue Buddies

It has recently come to the attention of the committee of Collie Rescue (Rough & Smooth) that there have been concerns raised in respect of the funds held and a perceived reluctance to assist Buddy’s Rescue Buddies.

Collie Rescue has every admiration for the work undertaken by Buddies, rescuing our beloved breed and re-homing them within the UK, and we will continue to support them in every way we can whilst we have the means to do so.

It is true that Collie Rescue is in the enviable position of having a reasonably secure financial reserve at present. However, it must be pointed out that a large sum of this reserve is as a result of historic legacies and benefits from wills. Whilst such legacies are very welcome, they can by no means be relied upon as a regular flow of income. It is only with the benefit of frugal fiscal management that Collie Rescue has been in the position to assist Buddy’s over the last couple of years.

Although we have been supporting buddies since 2023, within the past 12 months, Collie Rescue has made 4 substantial donations towards the work of Buddy’s, and these donations total in excess of 30% of our working capital.  To continue in this manner would inevitably be a death knoll for Collie Rescue within the next few years, which would be of benefit to no one, and certainly devastating for the collies we strive to protect.

In addition to the monetary donations made, Collie Rescue also support Buddy’s in the following ways:

1/  Using our volunteers when necessary to perform, home checks and reimbursements of travel expenses.

2/  Sharing space on our website, meaning Buddy’s have no financial expense for domains, hosting etc.

3/  Providing homes under our “Permanent Foster” scheme for all dogs over the age of 8 years, thus providing monetary support for all medical bills throughout the life of the fostered Collie.

4/  Provision of temporary fostering or kennelling In the event of a home falling through

5/ Sharing or donating entirely monies raised at fund raising events.

Collie Rescue will continue to support Buddy’s in any way possible, whilst simultaneously protecting the viability and longevity of Collie Rescue to ensure that we are here for all Collies in need well into the future.
